Iritty Educational society is the realization of a long cherished dream of the hard working and enterprising people of this region. As there was no Institution for higher studies near the locality, enterprising people with a vision formed Iritty Educational Society in 1982 under the Society Registration Act, 1859, with the registration No S. 105/82. The Society prchased around 17 Acres of land and Keezhur kunnu, 4 km away from Iritty in between Mattannur and Iritty near Thalassery-Mysore State highway as the permanent site for the Society. The site is noted for its scenic beauty, easy accessibility and calm atmosphere needed for Scholarly pursuits. The tranquil atmosphere that envelops the region makes it an ideal spot for scholarly aspirants.
Iritty Educational Society established with the aim to provide educational facilities to the scholarly aspirants in and around the Iritty region started an Indsutrail Training Institute during the year 1994 wih the name ‘Mahathma Gandhi Industrial Training Institute (MG-ITI) with two courses, ie, Mechanic Motor Vehicle (MMV) and Draftsman Civil (DC). Both courses have been affiliated to NCVT, Govt. of India.
Secondly, Iritty Educational Society has been sanctioned an Aided College by the Govt. of Kerala during the year 1995 with three UG course. The college has been named as Mahathma Gandhi College, Iritty according to the by-law of the Society. Now the college is running with five UG Courses and three PG Courses. The college is affiliated to Kannur University.
To amplify the reach and output of the society as per the vision, Iritty Educational Society would like to commence some uptodate professional courses for empowering youth and women around the region.
Sri. K. P. Noorudeen (Ex-Minister) was the founder and President of Iritty Educational Society. He had been the President of Iritty Educational Society from 1992 to 2016. Along with this position, he had been the Manager of Mahathma Gandhi College, Iritty, from 1995 to 2016. In 2016, Adv. Sunny Joseph MLA became the President of Iritty Educational Society and Manager of Mahathma Gandhi College. In the year 2018, Sri. CV Joseph Master assumed the office of the President of Iritty Educationl Society and Manager of the College and continued in this position till 2023. Since 2023, Sri. Chandran Thillankeri has been the President of Iritty Educational Society and Manager of Mahathma Gandhi College. A Director Board comprising twenty-one members controls the administrative matters of Iritty Educational Society, which is the educational agency that manages Mahatma Gandhi College, Iritty.
